Today my power bill hit my inbox. Although we have gas heat, the fan and motor still have to run to circulate the heat. Given the extreme cold (for Alabama) that we've had the past month and the fact that I'd already received the budget busting natural gas bill, I sort of cringed and opened the bill with only one eye open. And it was.... $10 less than last month! Woo hoo! Granted, that's not like a HUGE savings, but it is some savings.
This month has been a struggle. It is very tempting to raid what savings I do have just to give us a bit of breathing room. But I really, really, really want to tough it out. It is very difficult to try and figure out why certain budget categories seem to be hurting so much this month --- especially when its a short month.
Tomorrow, I'm going to sit down with the budget spreadsheet and the adding machine (I can run estimations much faster on the adding machine --- go figure) and figure out where I really stand. Hopefully its a bit better than I think it is!
